About Formals Etc The Formal Affair was founded in 1984 as a gown rental prom shop. After the first few months, a lot of interest was expressed in renting bridal and bridesmaids attire. So in the Fall of 1984, the Formal Affair staff went to market to "look into buying bridal and bridesmaids gowns." After being rudely ejected from a showroom because "they do not sell to people who rent, " they were much less vocal about what they intended to do with garments. After several years of buying gowns in secret out of fabric that was not suitable for rental, Formal Affair Designs were introduced. FAD's are designs manufactured by our factory, specifically for rental. After several years in business, the demand for gown rental was noticed by other operators and calls started being made about how to rent, what to buy, how to alter, etc... In 1988. at a convention for "gown rental" the owners discovered that no one else knew how to even get started and they were already "doing it." To expand on that idea, Formals Etc Franchising Corporation was established. The chain grew from 3 to 23 and Formals Etc was nationwide. It was an exciting time and much publicity for both Formals Etc and gown rental was attained. Formals Etc wa in Success Magazine, on the Good Morning America Show, the Today program and featured in numerous magazines and articles. In 1991, the franchising program was discontinued but Formals Etc has continued to grow. The company now has 3 store in Louisiana ( Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Shreveport. ) Still expanding to help customers with their special day, Formals Etc now gives all customers options: Rent it, Purchase it or Design Your Own. In addition, our factory specializes in custom patterns for clients with special needs as well as custom pattern making for all sewn products.
