Artichoke Sandwich Bar

The Artichoke is located on the corner of Murdock and Broadway. We serve the best sandwiches in wichita! We also cater. We have several beers on tap and live music on weekends. We also host singer songwriter circle and a open mic once a month. The Artichoke was est. March 15th 1984, by three friends. Bobby Scofield , Steve Wilson, and Patrick Audley. I am Pat and I am the only original owner left... How did the Artichoke get its name??? Bobby had just returned from a ski trip in Colorada and had eaten at a restaurant on the slope called the Artichoke. He thought it was a catchy name and that is how the Artichoke came to be called the Artichoke Sandwich Bar. One big part of the Artichokes' success is due to its location, 811 N. Broadway. The current building use to be a residenticial, then an addition was added on the front and it held several bussiness, such as Burr Cafe, Gambles Restaurant, Jayhawk Lounge, The Elbow Room, whom we purchased it from 30 years ago. We estimate this buildling is well over 100 years old. I contriubute some of our success to my ability to pick good business associates, who managed the establishment during the day. Which allowed me to continue to do what I do best and that is to spend 32 years in the Wichita Public School classrooms.I have had the following managers. The late Jennifer Parish, Nancy Parish, and Juanita Albert. My personal favorite and The Artichokes current manager my lovely wife Ms. Molly. I want to thank all of our loyal customers for all their support during these last 30 years and look forward to the next 30 years ;)
